We only live about an hour away from the Golden Spike National Historic Monument, but have never been up to see it before. We decided to change that and threw the whole family in the minivan for a visit. It was a little underwhelming, because most of the stuff they have there is just replicas (they don’t even have the golden spike and other 3 spikes there on display) but the kids had fun, so I guess that’s all that matters, right?
They had two steam trains there that were replicas of the ones there when the last spike was driven to join the Union and Central Pacific Railroads. We got there right between when they did steam presentations and didn’t really want to stick around for the next one, so we just settled for taking our pictures in front of the trains.
