Makele's Birthday

Last Tuesday was Makele's 7th birthday. They always have a special thing they do in her class for the birthday child. Her teacher lit an orange candle that represents the sun with the 12 months as the sun's rays. Makele held a big globe and walked around the "sun" while the children sang, "the earth goes around the sun, the sun, the earth goes around the sun. The earth goes around the sun, the sun and Makele turns 1!" Then Makele dropped a marble in a container while her teacher showed the class a picture of Makele when she was one. They did this for every year of her life. Then she blew out the candle and gave each of the kids either a hug or a handshake.
I think this is such a fun tradition and a great way to honor the kids on their birthdays.

I broke Makele out of school early to go to McDonald's for lunch with Taryn, Dustin and Laney. After we got home, we walked over to the baseball field by the Jr. High to fly kites. There was a baseball practice going on, so we flew our kites from the church lawn.

Jack loved it and probably would have stayed all day had he not let go of his string which ended up in a high tree with the kite plummeting to the ground behind a fence. He was quite upset about that, but I told him it could be replaced (thank heavens for $1 kites at Walmart).

When Jeff got home, we ate dinner and had cake (I would like to say we had ice cream as well, but somebody ate it all and didn't bother to tell me we needed more ;)).
I gave Aiden his first slice of cake. He had no idea what to do with it. He squished it in his hands then looked a little disgusted that his hands were all dirty.
More to come about her birthday party with her friends that was on Saturday!
